In just four weeks we are Coming Home Again to our live and online worship ministries, as well as our children’s and youth ministries, and our music ministries. I have not been more excited about the fall return to full church schedules in all of my life. Perhaps Coming Home Again after having been out of our building because of a global pandemic changes the intensity of emotions!
Of course, Coming Home Again to our community of faith is challenging while the delta variant of COVID is causing another wave of infections, illnesses and hospitalizations. Some activities we would like to engage in are just not possible. I talked a few weeks ago now about how Fellowship is being planned as an outdoor event. Consuming food becomes a risky experience if it is done inside, so we have had to adapt.
In the same way, our beloved Wednesday Night Live family meal will not be possible, at least not right now. So we have to make adaptations to the ministries that will enable us to engage, nonetheless. The staff have been planning those adaptations and I want to share more about them.
Wednesday Night Live will have its kick-off event on September 22nd starting at 6:30 PM. That night will be more of an “open house” and a “come and go” event for families with children in grades 3 – 8. We will have lawn games, s’mores by the fire pit, and tours of the building. Rachel and I will be around to answer your questions and welcome you back. Megan will welcome the choir back at the same time.
Wednesday Night Live will happen from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. for everyone attending. Everything concludes at the same time (including choir rehearsal), hopefully making it easier for your family to fully participate. Rooted (3rd Grade), Holy Club (4th-5th grade), Middle School Ministry, Chancel Choir, and a sampler course of spiritual disciplines will be offered. The nursery will be open as a wiggle room (more on that next week) for parents and their little ones. Senior High Youth are encouraged to join the choir or attend the sampler course (Holy Ground will meet on Sunday nights). If you bring your kids for their groups, you can either volunteer in one of them, sing in the choir or attend the sampler course. We hope you will!
For the safety of our children, our unvaccinated, and our vulnerable, we are leveraging several safety protocols. Masks will be required for everyone. We will utilize our outdoor space as the weather allows. When we move inside for activities, we will continue to require face coverings, provide for safe distancing, and run true HEPA air filtration systems in each of the classrooms.
We are so excited to be able to see our Wednesday Night Live crowd in person, even if that means we are not able to sit down to a meal together. Our children and youth (and probably our adults, too) long for a live experience again. We could not be more excited to offer it for you and your family and trust that we will work together in creating a safe, engaging and spiritually rich adapted experience of Wednesday Night Live. I hope you’ll join us!
